11 “SELF-TAPE AUDITION STRATEGIES” DURING COVID-19

1. Use a quality camera, even lighting, and solid color background.
2. No props other than a phone or a bag.
3. Always record horizontally, not vertically.
4. Test the sound and video.
5. Make sure you avoid wearing white and busy patterns that may be distracting.
6. Framing – you should be in the center and film from your chest to just above the top of your head.
7. Shoot scenes separately. They can be edited together.
8. Sit or Stand. Ideally, the camera should remain in one position throughout the scene.
9. The reader should be off-camera. He or she should be as close to you as possible, positioned just to the left or right. The reader should not overshadow your volume or do anything extra.
10. Be off-book so you can focus on performing.
11. Follow instructions given by casting.
