Game Recap 2

Here is my second game recap I was able to do from the press box.

Washington State Cougars secure post-season eligibility with a win against Oregon State

The Cougs came back late in the fourth quarter at Saturday night’s game in Martin Stadium. “Borghi, Borghi, Borghi” fans chanted as sophomore running back Max Borghi ran the ball in with three seconds left to send the Cougs on top, 54-53.

“We created a bunch of adversity for ourselves in the fourth quarter,” said head coach Mike Leach.

Not only did the Cougs come out on top late in the game, but Anthony Gordon made history. His 6 total touchdown passes in the game brought his season total to 45. Gordon broke the Pac-12 record for most single-season touchdown passes.

Going on to break his second record of the night, Gordon racked up 606 passing yards in the game, bringing his season total to 4,920 passing yards. This breaks the Pac-12’s most passing yards in a single season. Gordon was also named Pac-12 Player of the Game, a seemingly fitting senior night for the senior quarterback.

14 seniors were recognized for senior night tonight before the game.

“Can’t help but feel like ‘3’ helped us out,” Jahad Woods said of the late Tyler Hilinski.

This would have been Hilinski’s senior year and he was honored with the 13 other seniors before the game. His family was out on the field to help honor him. Many players went into the game with Hilinski on their mind.

Junior receiver Renard Bell had one of his biggest games at WSU. He was second in catches with 8 yet had 108 receiving yards. He followed this with two touchdowns, which tied him with Borghi.

Oregon State’s wide receiver Champ Flemings led OSU with 110 receiving yards. Flemings had four catches, one of those being a 46-yard pass that led to an Oregon State touchdown. This is Flemings second 100-yard game in 2019.

OSU senior tight end Noah Togiai had 67 total yards with five catches. This game pushed him over 1,000 career receiving yards. This puts him as the sixth tight end in OSU’s history to reach that mark.

The Beavers will go on to face the Oregon Ducks on Saturday at the Autzen Stadium. This will be OSU’s last chance to be eligible for the post season.

Apple Cup is 1 p.m. on Friday at Husky Stadium. The Cougars have not won against the Huskies since 2012. This will be the Cougs last regular season game against their highly anticipated rival.
