11 “SELF-TAPE AUDITION STRATEGIES” DURING COVID-19
- Use a quality camera, even lighting, and solid color background.
- No props other than a phone or a bag.
- Always record horizontally, not vertically.
- Test the sound and video.
- Make sure you avoid wearing white and busy patterns that may be distracting.
- Framing – you should be in the center and film from your chest to just above the top of your head.
- Shoot scenes separately. They can be edited together.
- Sit or Stand. Ideally, the camera should remain in one position throughout the scene.
- The reader should be off-camera. He or she should be as close to you as possible, positioned just to the left or right. The reader should not overshadow your volume or do anything extra.
- Be off-book so you can focus on performing.
- Follow instructions given by casting.
