A little bit of Sriracha all night long…

Sriracha a unique Thai hot sauce that has dominated our taste buds these past few years. Here’s little history on Sriracha, aimed at all you hot sauce loving peeps. The Sriracha most commonly known in these regions is Huy Fong Hot Chili Sauce. In 1980, creator David Tran “started his chili legacy in a 5,000 sq foot building nestled near Chinatown in Los Angeles” (Huy Fong, 2020). Throughout the years Tran has expanded his hot sauce making business worldwide. What makes Sriracha so great? According to science, “the peppers used in Sriracha, have more “gravitas” than the drifting-molecule compounds found in hotter peppers. In other words, the molecules are larger, weightier, and stay in your mouth, which allows your taste buds to experience the pleasant spiciness without your eyes and nose stinging” (S&S, 2020).

I personally have been obsessed with sriracha this quarantine. I believe the combination of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors is the reason why sriracha is so obsessive. As a Mexican, I grew up eating Valentina and Tapatio hot sauce. My family are hot sauce aficionados. We have homemade hot sauce always in stock inside our fridge. We eat our food with hot sauce. Hot sauce is in our blood. I had previously dislike sriracha and couldn’t understand what all the craze was about. I remember succumbing and putting some sriracha on my garlic shrimp and feeling disgusted. However, during this designated quarantine I have become a sriracha freak. Literally eating it with everything. My dad has joined me in my quest to explore the flavor depths of sriracha. Our dinner today consisted of a homemade sriracha ranch dressing that we added to our salad. The grilled chicken I ate for lunch consisted of a sriracha glaze. Yesterday we had breaded fish and I made a sriracha fused tartar sauce. In conclusion, I have decided that sriracha is one of the positive sides of being quarantined. It has kept me sane as I try to explore various sriracha fused foods. Stay sane guys.
