Sam’s Pizza

Look Sam’s you got to step it up. Millions of us are quarantined due to COVID-19. If you are following protocol and are able to be quarantined during this time, you’re like me, eating a lot of junk food and sleeping. Its funny how during these times you crave stuff that you normally don’t eat. Since I’ve been quarantined (middle of March), I’ve had an uncontrollable craving for Costco pizza. All the online reports that have listed Costco as having long wait times/lines. I am fortunate enough to have an Instacart membership. For those who don’t know Instacart, they are awesome. It’s basically a grocery delivery service. You shop for your desired groceries on their app or website and an Instacart shopper (hero) goes to the store shops your groceries and then delivers it. Well Costco doesn’t have any type of delivery for their food court essentials, but my local Sam’s does. So, I decided to try Sam’s pizza.

I ordered a slice of the supreme pizza. Which in Costco language would be the Combo. I had high hopes for this pizza. I was super excited. The pizza visually looked good. It was properly cooked; the pepperonis were crispy which I like. The smell was appealing but it wasn’t Costco pizza appealing. It honestly smelled like an oven cooked frozen pizza. But I was hungry and thought maybe the drive diminished some of that pizza smell. It wasn’t blazing hot, which I understand since it was delivered. I put it in my toaster oven to heat up for 2 min and it was hot and gooey.

As soon as I took that bite, I hated Costco. I hated them for not having delivery service. I hated them for having long lines. I hated them for making such exquisite pizza. As hard as Sam’s tries to be like Costco they don’t come anywhere near. I felt such strongly about this topic that I had to write this piece about that Sam’s slice of pizza that I regrettably ate. The next day I went to my local Costco with my face mask and hand sanitizer. I practiced social distancing and paid for my large Combo pizza. Immediately the mouth-watering smell engulfed my car. I was drooling the whole way home. When I got home, I placed the pizza box in my kitchen table and opened the box. Warm tears engulfed my face. I had ordered my favorite pizza the Costco Combo but they had given me a Pepperoni. I couldn’t believe my luck! Like I said, I hate Costco (but I really love them).
