Catching Up in your Dreams

Day 60 of being in quarantine. Plenty of food, toilet paper, and water. Internet, full speed, and enough sweatpants to go around. However, there is one thing that I am short on. It’s driving me crazy. So much that I think in the near future I will reenact Tom Hanks’s scene from “Castaway” and become best friends with a ball.
We can’t see anyone in-person. That is a fact. Everyone is isolated from each other, all stuck in their houses and although the world is slowly going back into place, beaches are reopening, stores are reverting to regular business times, we are still confined to a 6-foot distance. It is like this social-distancing has become our new way of life. I don’t have the slightest clue as to when I will be able to hug someone or just dish out a simple high-five to my friends without sanitizing my hands. It frankly, sucks. However, there is a bit of hope we can look to and test out. There is a way we can see people, whether it’s our family, friends, or even celebrities, and we don’t even need to be 6-feet apart. We can see anyone in this place – the dreamscape.
Dreams are such peculiar things. They have such great power. They have the power to turn your thoughts into terror and the power to grant you what you desire most in the world, and in some ways, connect you with friends you haven’t spoken to in a while before and when you need it – provide that companionship.
As I was organizing my bookshelf, I came across one of my old journals that I usually record my dreams in. Some of them have song inspirations, prophetic events, and whatnot, and i kept reading page after page until I came across a particular recorded dream that I had about a month ago. In this dream, oddly enough, I saw one of my old friends from high-school that I haven’t talked to since graduation. To be honest, and I hate to say this, but I completely forgot about her. However, the fact that I had this dream about her meant that I really didn’t forget her, so she was in my subconscious. That’s how I was able to see her in my dream. The story starred my friend and I had our usual fun around our high-school building, just chatting away, making jokes, and going through the usual school schedule. It felt so vivid that I thought I traveled back in time. It was so long ago but I remember it so clearly, with the additional help of my journal.
I saw this as a sign, to reconnect with people. I have spent these past few weeks sending out numerous emails, even if I sent them to individuals that have bridges that I’ve burned down. We are all facing this together, so separation from one another doesn’t do any good. It makes it worse in the long run. Being an actor, I sent out a few text messages to some casting studios and some directors to ask if they are doing okay, and they responded!
I even reached out to my friend from my dream and found out that she is doing really well – currently living in Oregon and in perfect health. I’m expecting that there are going to be some long conversations with her from now. There is a lot we have to catch up on, and I am happy that I finally have the time to talk to my old friends.
This is the PERFECT moment to reconnect with others that you haven’t spoken to in a long time. Everyone is at home, doing nothing but being the “sweatpants boss” so reaching out with just a simple “hello” is right now, enough to regrow a weak connection.
